PNKF Shinsa Testing Criteria
as used by Pacific Northwest Kendo Federation

Examination Group 1,
6-2 Kyu Youth
Format: Rank group (e.g. all 6 kyu youth) line-up on court with no bogu on. All put on bogu with Examiners watching. Then all the Applicants demonstrate basics with a motodachi. Each Applicant will demonstrate the following;

Kirikaeshi
2 Men Uchi
2 Kote Uchi
2 Doh Uchi
After all Applicants complete their Basic's demonstration, each will perform a minimum of one keiko. This completes their examination.j

1 Kyu Youth
Format: Traditional format of a minimum of 2 Keiko. This group does not have to demonstrate putting on the bogu. This group will already have their bogu on when they do their keiko.

After all youth kyu complete their keiko, 1 kyu does kata exam (Kata #1-3)

5-3 Kyu Adult
Format: the same as 6-2 Kyu Youth group's format.

2-1 Kyu Adult
Format: Traditional format of a minimum of 2 Keiko. This group does not have to demonstrate putting on the bogu. This group will already have their bogu on when they do their keiko

After all youth kyu complete their keiko, 1 kyu does kata exam (Kata #1-3)

Examination Group 2:
1-4 Dan
Format: Traditional format of a minimum of 2 Keiko followed by kata exam.
1 dan (Shodan): kata #1-5
2 dan (nidan): kata #1-7
3 dan (Sandan): kata #1-10
4 dan (Yondan): kata #1-10
